The business is a software development company based in Albany, Western Australia. Called RelMS, it produces the ground-breaking software package of the same name for the transport and removals industry worldwide. The business has an interesting background. It was started by Albany businessman Ken Keys who had 23 years experience in the removals industry when he entered the field of information technology. As a master removalist, Ken Keys was convinced there was a better way the business could be operated, particularly in the quotation phase. The removals industry was heavily paper-based with hundreds of household items logged manually and quotes taking days to prepare. The whole relocation business, from the initial contract and quote to the itemizing of rooms, issuing work orders and invoicing, was fraught with inefficiencies.For a furniture removalist with no background in IT and no higher education, it was a challenge requiring ingenuity and innovation as well as dogged perseverance. Ken nurtured the concept for several years until 1990 when he enlisted a family member with an IT background to develop a basic prototype. The pair worked closely together blending practical logistics with programming shortcuts, always mindful that the end users were removalists and not necessarily computer savvy. After Ken engaged a world-class software developer also based in Albany the product known as Relocation Management Systems (RelMS) finally emerged from the virtual world and began a life of its own.Today RelMS is a rapidly growing software business with other innovative products under development.
