The Virtual Medical Centre (VMC), established in 2002, is a leading provider of information online to health professionals, their patients and the general public. The VMC manages 19 disease sites which are supported by more than 1,100 national and international medical specialists serving on the Editorial Advisory Boards for each site. In addition, the VMC has two educational sites, viz:
Virtual Medical Education - an endorsed provider of Continuing Medical Education by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners; and
Virtual Nursing Education (VNE) - delivering online professional development programs endorsed by the Royal College of Nursing, Australia.
VMC receives in excess of five hundred thousand unique visitors, on average, each month. The demographic breakdown of the traffic to VMC is 85% of visitation is from within Australia and 15% is international. Of the Australian visitations 80% are general public, 10% consist of allied health professionals such as nurses and other health professionals and 5% are medical practitioners.
The VMC receives strong support from the pharmaceutical industry. Currently, it is sponsored by 20 national and international pharmaceutical companies.
