For more than 170 years, Landgate and its predecessor agencies have provided the State with high quality survey and mapping services, and a secure land titling system. More recently, Landgate has taken on the role of providing quality valuation services.
As a statutory authority with commercial powers, the agency continues to provide vital land and property information. This underpins our states sustained growth and prosperity, and ensures the security of land ownership essential for stimulating capital investment.
Landgates core business is land information. We are responsible for ensuring the State's land ownership records are up-to-date and easily accessible.
The agency provides state-wide Geodetic Network and collects geospatial data from ground surveys, aerial photography and satellite imagery. This information is used to produce a wide range of digital and hard copy maps for many different purposes, as well as our touring maps series designed specifically to meet the States tourism requirements.
Landgate also provides an effective and impartial valuation and property information service.
Landgate is a lead agency in the Western Australian Land Information System (WALIS) - a consortium of state government agencies that coordinates WA's land information.
The Interest Enquiry application is a revolutionary new way to search for interests in land held by government agencies. It is made up of two components. The first is a spatially-enabled web-based application which provides a single access point to a range of government information about rights, restrictions and obligations (interests) relating to land. The second is an Interest Dictionary which maintains for the Western Australian community, all the known interests in land that can impact an owners use and enjoyment of land.
This new application will be a very important tool in building a total picture of all the interests that apply to land.
To date, Landgate has identified that they are approximately 60 interests on land. At its launch, Interest Enquiry will connect to ten of these, and it is the intention of Landgate, in consultation with government agencies, to as many of the remaining fifty as possible.
